Congrats Suzie and I will be sending you an email. Don't forget you have 48 hours to contact me, otherwise I will move on to someone else.

Scrapbook Saturdays

Scrapbook Saturday

Here is a page I did a little while ago using one of the kits from The Shabby Princess. I'm new to the whole digital scrapbooking thing, and I believe this was my second page I ever did. (Not that I've done a whole lot more!)

Uh oh! I messed up!

OK, so I tried to enter this contest at online-sweepstakes.com, but it said they didn't accept my information. I then decided to change the deadline for the contest, but after looking at my stats, there was a lot of people coming from online-sweepstakes.com, so they apparently DID accept my entry. I didn't realize this till after I ended the contest and notified the winner.

So, to make up for my mistake, if you still want to enter, leave me a comment on THIS post, and I will choose another winner. The same rules apply. You must go vote for Trisha at MomDot for the hot blogger calender here and leave me a comment stating that you did. You must also leave me a way to contact you, either through your blogger profile, or leave an email address.

Ends 8/30 at 11:59 am Mountain Time. See here for the original posting!

And the Winner is.....

Well, after going through the list of comments that we had and taking out the ones that did not say if they had voted for Trisha, our winner is.......

StacyRenee who said...

I put your contest up on my blog. I think this is an great idea.
I have a pic of my angel baby that I would like to have done for his memory box.

Yay for Stacy! I will contact you and we can get going on getting your picture done.

Thank you everyone who entered, and everyone who voted for Trisha. She is currently #3, and the voting ends on Sunday, so tell everyone you know to go vote for her!

Small Giveaway!

*Contest is Closed*

I am trying to get more votes for Trisha at MomDot for the Hot Bloggers Calender. So, to motivate you to go vote for her HERE, I am giving away your own fairy princess picture. Or if you have a boy I have bat wings too, or dragon wings, etc. I will photoshop a picture of whomever you would like, I just need you to email it to me. Please, no professional photos, please! Unless you own the copyright for them. I don't want to get in any trouble editing someone's photo! Then I will add the wings and email it back to you, and you can do whatever you want with it.

So, how to enter. Go vote for Trisha HERE, and leave me a comment telling me that you did. If you have already voted, you can still enter, just leave me a note telling me you already voted FOR TRISHA. If you vote on more than one computer (only one vote per computer will count in the contest) leave me a separate comment, and that will enter you twice.

Contest will end on Friday, Aug 29th, so enter quickly!

To see another picture I did click here.

For an extra entry: post this contest on your site and link back to here!

And make sure you leave a way for me to contact you, either through your blog or an email address. Most of the entries so far don't have any way for me to contact them if they win!

Also, don't forget to tell me you voted for Trisha, otherwise your comment will not count!

Winner will have 48 hours to contact me, and then I will pick a new winner if I don't hear from them.

Celebrity Look Alike!

This was really funny to do. I think most of these people have the same cheekbones as I do, that's why they were picked. I'm flattered though, since most of these people there are gorgeous! Oh, the one that got cut off is Billie Piper.

If you want to try this too, just click here.

I did it again with a different picture, and here are the results for that one. The only person that is the same is Marcia Cross! The one that got cut off here is Maria Menounos.

Now, Where's the __________ Part 2

*Don't forget to read part 1 of this post just below!*

I am terrible at putting things away. Lots of things don't have a place, so they kind of end up everywhere. I've started buying baskets and making them a "random" place to put all the random things, but that hasn't helped a ton. It doesn't help that my husband won't put away anything that isn't "his," or our daughter's toys. Everything else he considers "mine," and won't touch. Even my daughter's clothes. Those are my responsibility to put away apparently. After being married for a little while we figured out that he hates to put away dishes, which I hate to do them, so we came up with the plan that he will do them, and I will put them away. Well, now it takes about 3 or 4 days for him to get around to doing them, and I refuse to do it, because then he wouldn't even bother.

The longer we've been married, the more he has digressed in his helping habits. When we were first married, he told me to get out of the laundry room because that was "no place for a women to be." I was thrilled to hear that. Well, now he still does laundry, but usually only when he's out of something. The other day he was doing laundry and he threw his jeans in with our daughter's clothes. Some of them white and light colored, mind you, with his jeans being dark jeans. After it was done, I asked him why he would do that, and he said, "They're only baby clothes." I showed him the stains they put on her clothes, and he said to simply wash them again. I asked if he would ever put his white shirts in with his jeans and he said, "No of course not." He didn't have an answer to why he would with hers. I think he's started to act dumb so he can get out of doing things. I won't let him, though! I can't do it all!

So now I'm at the point where I want to do it, but don't know where to start. I think I need to make a list saying "Monday, do laundry. Tuesday, clean kitchen. Wednesday, vacuum", etc. And I need to get everything put away, because it's a lot easier to keep a house clean that is already organized. I want to hear your ideas of how you keep your place organized. What tips do you have for me?

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Now, Where's the __________ Part 1

Some of you out there might be very organized. Some of you might even manage to keep a clean house. Notice how I say some of "you," because I am obviously not in this category. I am the type of person who has everything everywhere. I always have been. That was the one thing my parents were always getting after me about- my room!

I'm pretty good about knowing where everything is. When I was in high school, I could walk across the floor of my room in the dark, and not step on a thing, even though there was no path to the normal viewer. Oh, and if you needed to know where something was, I could tell you that it was in the 3 pile next to the dresser underneath the pair of jeans.

We've lived in several apartments, and I kept a lot of stuff boxed up, because it wasn't things I used all the time. But if I needed something, I knew exactly which box (maybe two) I'd have to search through.

We bought our own house a couple of years ago, and we have a ton more space, but things still seem to be everywhere. It's gotten worse the longer we've lived here. Maybe it's because I'm slowly unpacking some of those boxes. Maybe it's because I am collecting more things. Maybe it's because things don't get put away. Whatever it is, it's starting to drive me nuts! I can't find things that I need, and I hate having a cluttered house that everyone can see when they come over. I really want to organize everything, but I am so overwhelmed! I don't know where to start. Oh, and did I mention that we don't have the money for those nice shelfs and plastic boxes to organize everything in?

My husband collects comic books. He then takes those books and stores them in boxes that are 29 1/2 inches deep, and about 10 inches wide. They are too deep to fit on normal shelves, so we'd have to get the big ones, which happen to be a lot more expensive. Oh, did I mention that he has 23 of these boxes! Well, right now, those are taking up about half of our basement. Then his parents brought over everything he has kept at their house, since we "have our own place now, and we can store it here." So he's got random things there taking up another wall in our basement. I have my corner where I keep all my craft things.

Ah, the craft things. That is one of my biggest problems. I have lots of fabric and extras used for sewing and other crafts. Do I need it all? "Absolutely," would be my answer. I probably don't need it all, but my mom is getting rid of a lot of her things, and giving them to me. I only take the things I can see myself using, so that way I save lots of money by taking hers, instead of buying new things as the need arises. I also sew and make things for my business, so my sewing machine is always in use. It is currently sitting on the kitchen table, which is also covered with other fabrics and craft items. We never eat at the table, but we will when our daughter gets a little bit older. I need to get things moved off before then.

Well, this was so long that I decided to do this in two parts, so stay tuned for the rest of my ramblings!

The Joys of Redbox

Have you discovered the joys of Redbox yet? I have. In fact, this is pretty much how my family gets to see any new releases. We don't get a chance to go out to many movies anymore, due to having to find a babysitter. We usually ask family, but we don't like to do that all the time, so we rent from Redbox.

Redbox is a DVD rental kiosk that is found in most McDonalds, and lots of grocery stores. To find one near you, go to http://www.redbox.com/. It costs $1 a night ($1.06 with tax for here in Utah) and you keep if for however many nights you want. They will automatically charge your card for each night. If you keep it for more than 25 nights, it's yours to keep. You do have to have a credit/debit card to use, however.

I love it because it has a lot of new releases, with new movies every Tuesday. This way we get to see the latest movies, but don't have to spend a bundle. I usually don't need to keep a movie for more than one night anyways. We have one at the gas station that is right by our place, so I can walk there with my daughter, and it is super easy to return them, and to rent them.

Now, for the best part, every Monday Redbox sends out a free code that is good for one free movie rental per card. This means if you have 3 credit/debit cards, you can get 3 free movies. All you do is type in the promo code before you check out. The code is only good until midnight the Monday it is issued. We do this every Monday, and I can't remember the last time we've paid for a movie. In August, they are also doing a free code every Wednesday as well.

How do you get these free codes? Well, you can sign up for text messages to be sent to your phone at http://www.redbox.com/, or check other websites that list them. My favorite is http://www.insideredbox.com/. They also have a list of other free codes that are good in specific places, and last more than just one night.

Today's free code is 65QM89. Check back on Wednesday for the free code!

Fun with Photoshop

I've recently learned how to use photoshop elements, and I've been playing around with pictures of my daughter. She is now officially a fairy princess!

I just used some free brushes I found by doing a google search on "fairy wing brushes for photoshop" as well as using glitter brushes. I've had so much fun playing around, I probably spend way to much time on the computer. Oh well, at least something constructive is coming out of it!

Sun Protection Zone Products

To start off my product review blog, I have a total sun protection package from Sun Protection Zone Products.

I have seen a lot of blogs reviewing the products from Sun Protection Zone, and they seemed like very impressive products. I decided to contact them myself to see if they needed anyone else to review their products. I got a response very quickly, and next thing I know, we got a bright yellow box delivered to our door. In it was a long sleeve suit, a pair of sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and a box of Solar Safe UV Sun Monitoring Wristbands.

I was very excited to get this, and so was Kaylee. She immediately picked up the sunglasses and tried to put them on. Then she moved to the hat and did the same thing. The hat is actually adjustable with a cord that tightens the diameter of the hat, allowing it to fit smaller kids, as well as older ones. The long sleeve suit was adorable, and looks like a wet suit for babies. The bright pink Hawaiian print is perfect to keep track of your little one at the pool or beach. I showed it to my neighbor, and she said, "She's going to be a little surfer!" We haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I am excited. They come in blue too, and have different designs to fit almost every one's taste. The hat and the suit both have a UPF rating of 50+, and block97.5% of UVA and UVB rays. The sunglasses have a 100% UV protection.

I have to tell you about my favorite product: the Solar Safe wristband. They come in packs of seven, and they are disposable after one use. What you do is put sunscreen on the band the same time you put sunscreen on yourself. Then it changes color to let you know when you need to reapply sunscreen, and then it changes another color when you need to get out of the sun because you've been out too long. They are waterproof too, so they would be perfect for a day at the beach or the pool. I think this is such a great idea, because I know I tend to forget to reapply sunscreen. I remember when we first go out, but how often do I actually reapply? We will definitely use this for our next outing.

The Sea & Ski sunscreen comes out as a foam, and is very easy to apply. According to their site, it is "clinically proven to maintain 30 SPF protection for 8 hours, including towel drying and multiple water immersions." It does not have a physical sunblock in it, like zinc or titanium dioxide, but seems to be an effective sunscreen. For those of you who don't know the difference between a sunblock, and a sunscreen, a sunblock actually physically blocks the UV rays from your skin while a sunscreen absorbs them. I have been prone to using a sunblock, but it does take some time to rub in, since it goes on pretty white and needs a little while to warm up to your skin. This does not, and is a lot easier to put on Kaylee, since she doesn't have to have me continually rubbing it in. The only downside of it that I noticed, is that I could feel I had something on. There was almost a layer sitting on top of my skin that I wasn't a huge fan of. It was not greasy like normal sunscreen, and it didn't have a smell, but I didn't feel like it completely absorbed into my skin. This is just a personal preference, however, and doesn't effect the quality of the product.

Overall, I am very impressed with this company, and I encourage any company that is doing what they can to help prevent sun damage. Being fair skinned myself, I burned a lot when I was little, usually several times a summer, and many of those times I had blisters to go with it. I know now how damaging that was, and am constantly doing to checks to see if I need to get anything examined. My husband and the majority of his family have a genetic mutation that makes them more prone to skin cancer. Since it is genetically passed on, we assume Kaylee has it too. Many of my husband's family has had melanoma removed, so I want to be very careful with my daughter and protect her as much as I can. I am grateful for those out there who understand this risk, and are doing what they can to help prevent the harmful damage in our kids.
